The LEO (Learning Experience Online) pattern library is a coherent, tested, and accessible set of styles, components, and learning-object patterns that is applied in the development of course material and ELM (Enhancing the Learning Model) projects at UMUC (University of Maryland University College). Its audience is all of UMUC, but in particular the Learning Design and Solutions (LD&S) department of Academic Affairs and the faculty and subject matter experts involved in the development of learning content.
The LEO pattern library has several functions that benefit our operations:
- It instills consistency across learning content in LEO.
- It adds semantic features specific to content developed at UMUC.
- It creates a lexicon of design patterns so that a common vocabulary can be used among LD&S teams.
- It consolidates design patterns for easy reference across LD&S teams and solves internal communications problems.
- It exists as a living document as we make enhancements to ELM.
Currently, the LEO pattern library largely follows the styles of its learning management system, in the version Brightspace Daylight, which was activated at UMUC on December 21, 2017.
Take Note
Status indicators have been added to the Pattern Library to help identify what components are available in AEM and EQUELLA.
